Day 16 - Cima di Mezzo
At last, a clear sunny day and finally the plan from the last 2 days could be carried out. A short drive to the chairlift took us to the first problem of the day. A certain chairlift which cut out 785m of climbing was closed, which meant that the original 5-6 hours day would be extended to a 9-10 hour extravaganza. But we went anyway!
Lunch - 2 hours flog up a Black ski slope.
Then, off up the Via Ferrate we went.
Traversing above 1000m cliffs.
Scrambling down gullies that descended to the bottom of the mountain.
Stepping over ravine using old rickety ladders.
Getting stuck in crack and having to use prusik loops and ingenuity to retrieve the situation.
Seeing views over the whole of the alps.
Generally, having a lot of fun.
The only trouble was, that, due to the chairlift not operating, there was no chance at getting the last chairlift at the bottom of the slope. So at 5pm, we were still at 3000m.
7pm we were at the bottom.
Thats 1456m of descent in a couple of hours. More than you could ever do in the UK in one go… Not bad for a couple of amateurs!
